Grappling, Playfighting, & Rough Body Play

March 3 @ 12:00 am

For those interested in learning some safer grappling moves for play fighting, the Felwinters are eager to share their combined decade of martial arts experience with the community. Attendants don’t need any prior knowledge, just come in cozy and easy to move in clothes and a playful attitude. The workshop will be focusing on safety through recognizing holds and chokes and learning how to apply them correctly or avoid them altogether.

Parameters

Goal: provide starter instruction for safely engaging in grappling, holds, and chokes

Students: adults with minimal martial arts experience

Instructors: one lead (Hugh) explaining the content and one assist (Sarah) demonstrating actions on the lead.

Acknowledgements

We are on the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy ̓ əm (Musqueam),Sḵwx ̱ wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
Studio Allegory is a safer kink and community space for marginalized and policed demographics and their friends and allies. Friends are always welcome so long as they acknowledge the need for spaces such as these and step back to allow others
the opportunity to speak first.
I acknowledge that I am a cis white masc person in a heteropresenting relationship. While I am queer, disabled, and fall outside other societal standards, I recognize these distinctions are not visible, and me taking on an instructing role can look like the same authoritative patriarchal power dynamics many experience outside this space. As such, I want to set myself at the service of the community as a resource and facilitator.
