SUMMARY:Decolonizing Kink - with Caritia
DESCRIPTION:After years of exploring alternative lifestyle spaces\, it feels important to look beyond the play itself and ask some bigger questions. Where does our knowledge of kink and BDSM come from? Whose histories and perspectives shape what we know? And how do we decide which practices we embrace\, how we engage with them\, and why? \nJoin Caritia for an engaging\, discussion-based workshop exploring kink and BDSM through the lenses of colonialism\, power\, race\, and the carceral systems that shape how we understand bodies\, desire\, and pleasure. Drawing on an Afro-diasporic perspective and the work of Stephanie Simbo\, whose research explores sex and sexuality\, we’ll question familiar narratives\, challenge assumptions\, and make room for perspectives that are often overlooked. \nThis isn’t about finding the right way to do kink or policing anyone’s pleasure. It’s about getting curious\, thinking critically\, and exploring what becomes possible when we question what we’ve been taught. \nWhat we’ll explore \n\nUnpacking our kink knowledge — Where do our ideas\, language\, and practices come from?\nPower\, race & colonial histories — How have these shaped the ways we understand bodies\, sexuality\, and BDSM?\nQuestioning the familiar — Whose perspectives are centred\, and whose are missing?\nReflecting on our own practices — What do we embrace\, resist\, or take for granted\, and why?\nImagining other possibilities — How might these perspectives expand the ways we approach kink\, desire\, and pleasure?\n\nCome ready to question\, challenge\, disagree\, share\, and get curious. You don’t need to be an expert in kink history or decolonial theory—just bring an open mind and a willingness to look at familiar things differently. \nLet’s get beneath the surface of our practices and see what else we might discover. \n\n  \n(Photo by Renée deSans

SUMMARY:Primal Play - with Caritia
DESCRIPTION:What happens when we let go of the rules\, get curious about our instincts\, and give ourselves permission to play a little differently? \nPrimal play invites us to explore the wilder\, more instinctive\, and less scripted parts of ourselves. It might look like growling\, crawling\, chasing\, wrestling\, making sounds\, taking up space\, or discovering an entirely different way of moving and/or interacting. There’s no single way to do primal play\, just curiosity and a willingness to experiment. \nJoin Caritia for a practical\, hands-on workshop where we’ll explore what primal play can mean to us\, what sparks our curiosity\, and how we can discover our own ways of playing. Through role-play\, sound exploration\, individual and group exercises\, brainstorming\, and discussion\, we’ll experiment with different ways of expressing ourselves\, connecting with others\, and finding the fun in the unexpected. \nWhat we’ll explore \n\nWhat is primal play? — Exploring its possibilities and discovering what it might mean for you\nMovement & sound — Experimenting with sounds\, gestures\, and ways of moving beyond the everyday\nRole-play & character — Playing with instinct\, imagination\, and different ways of being\nPlay together — Exploring exercises in pairs and small and larger groups\nCuriosity & creativity — Brainstorming ideas and discovering what feels exciting\, silly\, powerful\, or simply fun\nReflection & discovery — Sharing experiences and identifying what you’d like to explore further\n\nCome ready to experiment\, make some noise\, get a little silly\, and surprise yourself. You don’t need to know what your primal side looks like before you arrive—that’s part of the fun of finding out. \nLet curiosity lead. Your inner creatures can take it from here. \nWhat to bring – comfortable layered clothing\, ideally items you don’t mind rolling around in and/or getting dirty. No tools necessary.  \n(Photo by Renée deSans)
