This workshop will cover improving strength, flexibility and control, and how these can help you gain more physical autonomy and learn about your body!
We will go through locomotion patterns before and after corresponding mobility routines (hips, shoulders, and spine) to compare how we feel and move.
- There will be modifications for every skill level.
- We will move through movements slowly, with control.
- Please bring a journal or phone to make notes at the end of class.
- Wear comfortable clothes to move in.
- One set of paralettes / pbars and yoga blocks will be available if needed for assistance. Feel free to bring your own as well.
How this workshop may benefit you:
Hips
Limited hip mobility can look like struggling to touch toes, extend or raise the legs, sit or move in a squat, and getting on and off the floor.
Increasing hip mobility decreases the strain on the lower back, knees, and makes squatting, and stretching the hamstrings more comfortable.
This can benefit tying with stability, hip opening, and leg extension.
Spine
Tightness and stiffness in the back are common these days. With a lot of time spent in the seated position our spines don’t get the full range of movement they need.
This class will take your spine through a full range of motion (forward, back and sideways).
This can benefit tying with twisting, suspension, torsions, and back bends.
Shoulders
Limited shoulder mobility can cause upper back and neck discomfort. This is common due to people sitting for work and leisure a lot.
The movements in this class will cover the most common shoulder motion restrictions.
This can benefit tying with body handling, lifting, arm ties and stamina in holds.
